Relax with me and watch me flip through my current sketchbook

I haven’t always used a sketchbook as a “jumping off point” to paintings on canvas, instead, it’s been a space where ideas are allowed to be raw, messy, and totally unpolished, but also a place where some of my favorite pieces live. These pieces sometimes turn into prints, or sometimes live for years without the love they deserve. I’m hoping to change their fate by filming more flip throughs, as well as starting to use my sketchbooks to bring larger pieces to life.

There’s really only one page in this not quite filled sketchbook that I am embarrassed about. You’ll know it when you see it. I am not sure why it really took me for a ride, but I finally just decided to stop and let it be.

I recently put together a full flip-through video taking you page-by-page through my current favorite sketchbook, (a birthday gift from the MoMA):

A Few Favorite Moments from This Journal:

  • Color Studies: Testing how heavy acrylic layers interact with soft pastel marks.
  • Organic Forms: intuitive play and following my instincts of the day, whether that was a landscape or an abstract.
  • Unfiltered Process: The messy, imperfect pages that actually lead to the best ideas.

Whether you're looking for a bit of quiet studio inspiration or just enjoy watching layered pages come together, I hope this video gives you a warm peak behind my creative process.

Watch the full flip-through above, and let me know in the comments: do you prefer keeping a neat, structured sketchbook, or a messy play space?
